This is art from the ghetto eye doctor’s office. Not that the doctor himself is ghetto, although I think he may well be 110 years old.
Sometimes I don’t know where to start when I am writing. So I post pictures of people punching each other and then shaking hands.
This week has been annoyingly stressful. It does seem to be Murphy’s Law (the luck of the Irish?) that when you start trying to live God’s way, life starts trying to kick you in the throat. So, I get stressed, which means I don’t react to small problems or disappointment well. Which means I’m kind of a jerk, if I don’t catch myself.
The lesson here is to keep a good attitude and keep going. If I trust God with my circumstances, then my insurance being canceled isn’t going to make or break me. If God is my provider, then people backing out of Pampered Chef parties won’t ultimately destroy my plan to get out of debt quickly. I’m going to tithe anyway. If I am hurt by someone, I have to choose to pray, act in line with God’s character, and leave the rest up to Him. Love. Trust. Pray. Be grateful. Those are my options if I want to keep moving towards a Godly life.
This week I listened to Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki (meh) and Living Well, Spending Less by Ruth Soukup. I am enjoying her book, and have gotten some good ideas on how to save money at the grocery store. She also reinforces the idea of having specific, written goals: looking forward ten years, five years, this year, and this month: eating the elephant one bite at a time by having doable action steps for both short term and long term goals.
One story she told was of a broke football coach who’d just been fired. He had no job, no prospects, and a third baby on the way. He made the wise decision to get his goals down on paper and eventually made a list of the hundred and seven goals. Some of these goals were reasonable, some were just plain crazy. He wanted to meet the president, be on the Today Show, land a jet on an aircraft carrier, and be the football coach for Notre Dame. He kept that his list and so far Lou Holtz has accomplished 102 of his goals, including every one listed above. I just googled him to see if, just maybe, he was a Christian. Yep. It’s so amazing what we can do when we refuse to let fear, doubt, and uncertainty stand in the way of who we are meant to be.
So what’s on your list? It may take a while to achieve, but time is passing anyway, we might as well make it count! My list includes starting or pouring into a non-profit, sleeping with Boris Kodjoe (we’re married. You dirty dog.), owning a cute house with a garden and having friends over all the time, travel, ministry, writing a book, public speaking..but I want to spend time, make these goals very specific, pray, and get to work. God loves me just as much as he loves old Lou Holtz, amiright?
Progress: Still on budget, $600.00 in a savings account for an emergency fund, and doing a lot of running up and down my stairs for exercise (14 workouts scheduled, 14 workouts accomplished! ). Someone at work told me my butt was looking good. I’ll take it where I can get it. Love y’all suckas.
