Can sex outside of marriage be in the will of God?
Look, I’m right there with you wishing the answer was “yes”. We could go back and forth all day about why your situation is different, or how unfair God is for making me wait, but it comes back to one point: God says no.
This isn’t only about sex. It is about any sin a Christian is unwilling to let go of even though it’s clearly outside of God’s will (his good and perfect protection) for his people.
I think we sometimes get to a point where we want something so badly we begin to believe our own rationalizations. The problem is, our excuses held up against the Word of God will crumble and fall apart before our eyes and we will be staring only at our blatant disobedience. Every time.
Since lately I’ve been attempting to sweet-talk God into some things myself, I’ve been wrestling with the lie that I can still be obedient “enough” to be a good Christian even if I allow this one thing in. Although I haven’t fallen yet, temptation is a mother.
I am grateful to have friends that have my back enough to call me out when I’m headed off the path into the forest just because there’s a handsome man reaching out his hand to me. I can’t see the wolves hidden behind the trees, but they are absolutely there, waiting to take me down.
Sin comes in many pretty packages, but it will always bring destruction and separation from God. What has it destroyed in your life? Relationships? Your walk with God? Your testimony?
I was driving home a couple nights ago, wondering where this temptation would take me, when I suddenly realized I was being a bit of a fatalist. I was letting my feelings dictate my future, allowing myself to be swept along in the flow, rather than taking my thoughts captive to Christ and standing up against what will surely cause me pain, heartache, and setback. No more. Done.
Together, by prayer and obedience, let’s get back on the path. Let’s cheer each other on and walk arm in arm and follow Christ alongside the people who truly love us and seek our good and God’s glory.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. ~Hebrews 12:1-2
Amen!
