Love the one you’re with.

No, this is not encouragement to be free and spontaneous and cheat on your significant other. That’s another post.

“Loving your neighbor as yourself” is important to God. So important that he tacked it on as the second part of the greatest commandment : “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind, and love your neighbor as yourself.”

So , who is this “neighbor” we are supposed to love?

Maybe it’s the drug dealer (Hey, E!) across the street.

It could be your child’s teacher. Maybe you are called to encourage her this year.

Maybe it’s your boss. That constant stress could be from more than the office.

Could it be the single mom in your small group? What need could you fill?

We interact with people daily. What if we chose to treat each interaction with intentional care, love, and openness? What if we purposefully made ourselves available for more than surface relationships?

Your neighbor is the person who checks you out at the grocery store (your bags. Not you. Well, maybe both). Your neighbor is an orphan in Honduras waiting to be sponsored. Your neighbor is your child. Your neighbor is the homeless man you pass each day. Your neighbor is Simon (just kidding. That’s my neighbor).

Make the opportunities count. Love the people God puts in front of you. Love the people far away that he puts on your heart. There is someone, right now, who desperately needs a little kindness. Be the one to give it.
