I need you! I need you bad!
You don’t know how much you mean to me. How often I thank God for you. You are a warm merlot on a cold night, and a refreshing glass of lemonade in the sweltering heat. I am apparently thirsty a lot.
When I find myself lost in the woods after chasing a little white rabbit, you come after me and lead me back to the path. You bring sandwiches, because you know I’m starving.
When I am thoughtless and insensitive, you are quick to forgive. Then you give me sandwiches, and we can sit and talk like nothing was ever wrong.
When someone’s parent dies, you are quick to rush in and rally around that person. You help organize the funeral. You provide fried chicken, salad, and cake for the wake.
When a baby is born, you get together to shower the mama with love and presents. You set up a schedule to bring meals to the happy but exhausted new parents.
When I’m stubborn, you gently reason with me and hold up truth next to the almost truths I’ve been relying on, so that I can see they’re just big old lies. You don’t shout, you just hug and speak honestly.
Church family. Friends that point me to Jesus. You are brightly colored flowers in a field of grey. You are patience and community in a world of instant gratification and individualism. You are love and faithfulness in an era rampant with selfishness and infidelity.
I need you. I love you. Thanks for all the sandwiches.
