The One Thing

on

Y’all know I am all about The Goals.

I have lists and quotes and Bible verses. I have books and podcasts on finance, health, simplicity, making dreams a reality, and being a better Christian, friend, co-worker, etc., ad infinitum.

I think it’s important to have goals to strive for, and to always be learning and broaden my horizons.

However, a thought hit me this weekend.

As many of these areas I want to thrive in, there is one that supersedes.

What I want most in life is to succeed at being a “good and faithful servant”.

As much as I love Dave Ramsey and Zig Ziglar, there is only one man worth following exclusively. Spoiler alert. It’s Jesus.

The world can impress on us a thousand ways we need to do, attain, project, and maintain it’s version of “success”. This way shouts, “Look at me!”

God’s way is kind of opposite. This way whispers, “Look at him!”

I want to live each day, each decision, in a way that brings a smile to God’s face.
Whether I’m interacting with people at work, alone at home,  deciding how to serve at church, weighing which programs to watch, or choosing to not open the door to even the possibility of sin, I think it will be huge to stop and think “Does this qualify as good? Am I being faithful to God, others,  and the life I want?”

Everything else, even good things, come second.

I know people who have this down. Debbie and Mama Karen. Craig and Margene. Alicia. AshLueb. They might not know how much their desire to please God shines through, but it is so bright and so absolutely attractive.

When we let go of our need to be seen, God has room to work through us.

I’ll be honest. I need help with this.

By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.-  2 Peter 1:3 NLT

When all is said and done, giving my life back to God in thanks is what is truly important and the only thing that will sustainably satisfy.  Nothing else can even compare. There is so much joy in it, and even better, no regret. That’s huge.
.. You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness
of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. Psalm 16:11
Psalm 37:4 Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.

This should be interesting.. 😉

Beautiful. You get it, Dear One…and best of all, you get Him.
