Hand me a spoon, because I’m about to stir the pot a little.
I’m not going to name names. Lets play a guessing game!
Here’s the clue: If a “Christian” leader, pastor, or author delivers a message that is self-affirming and sin-affirming, God did not co-author that message.
I am so saddened by the sheer masses of Christians who buy into the deception that if we can just find our true selves, we can be “Untamed” and “Fierce, Free, and Full of…Fire”. We can “Live our Best Life Now” , “Wash our Face” and vibrate our way to peace and fulfillment. God will be happy to come alongside us and send butterflies and rainbows to let us know he sees us, and dang, we look good! We are doing this thang!
I call bull.
Christianity should not lead us to a realization of how great we are. It should, instead, reveal to us how amazing God is, that he should love us and forgive us even though we are sinners.
Ephesians 2:1-9 declares that we were dead in our sins when Christ called us to faith. DEAD. We could do nothing. We couldn’t fix ourselves. We would still be there if God hadn’t moved on our behalf.
“As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. 4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions(I)—it is by grace you have been saved.6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, 7 in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. 8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.(T)”
The message God spells out in his Word is that we are desperately wicked and destined for hell if we do not repent, turn from our sin, and follow him. This forgiveness is found only through faith in Christ’s death and resurrection as payment for our sin. Only through faith in Christ. There is such joy in this, and there is also pain because we are called to stop living for ourselves.
Being a Christian should lead us to a place of thankful surrender to Christ, and a life lived in humble, joyful obedience. We are to kill our sin daily and seek his help and guidance through his Word. We are to glorify and praise him. Only him.
Again, if the messages you are taking in teach anything other than loving Jesus and living for him, they are straight up garbage. To put it nicely.
I know this is not a popular opinion. But I’d rather be cancelled than not speak the truth in the hope that even one person would open their Bible and compare it to what they are consuming on a daily basis.
Turn off Oprah, burn that Eckhart Tolle book, and come to the only One who can satisfy your soul. He loves you.
Whoops. I named a couple names.
