Have you ever tried to read through the book of Obadiah? It’s pretty much a big old “you’re screwed” letter to the Edomites, who were some evil dudes that picked on the God’s people. It’s not comforting. Obadiah, the deliverer of this “you can run, but you can’t hide” message, was also a bit long winded, prophesying in detail all of the stuff that was about to hit the fan.
There are certain books of the Bible that call our names, whisper love to us, and shine light on our circumstances. My personal go-tos are Psalms, Proverbs, and most of the New Testament. Revelation is a toughie. The stories of larger-than-life heroes like David and Daniel in the OT also draw me in and allow me to see God’s awesome provision and power.
There are other books in the Bible that put me to sleep. You know who you are, Leviticus. Even my favorites can seem dry and unable to offer anything new at times (read 20 minutes ago).
I need a good Bible study! What studies have you done in the past that have been game changers?
Some of my favorites have been the Romans 12 study by Chip Ingram, Esther and Believing God by Beth Moore, and What Happens When Women Walk in Faith by Lysa TerKeurst.
Who has suggestions? What has made you fall in love with Jesus all over again? What study or book has changed your life? Thanks!
